On September 25, 2025 in Yaoundé , stakeholders from government institutions, development partners, civil society, and the media gathered for a high-level press conference to present the Policy Note on the Legal Framework for the Land Sector and to review the major results achieved under the LandCam Phase II Project (LCA II).

At the occasion, participants agreed that the land sector remains central to Cameroon’s socio-economic development, peacebuilding, and sustainable management of natural resources. Recognizing its importance, the Policy Note provides strategic guidance for strengthening legal and institutional frameworks to ensure transparency, inclusiveness, and equity in land governance. It outlines reforms aimed at safeguarding land rights for communities, promoting women’s access to land, reducing conflicts, and enhancing responsible land-based investments.

Speaking during the event, representatives from the Ministry of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure emphasized that the Policy Note includes lessons learned and offers a roadmap for aligning land legislation with international best practices while responding to Cameroon’s national realities.

The conference also highlighted the key achievements of the LCA II Project, implemented in collaboration with national partners and supported by international donors. Among the notable results are:

  • Strengthened capacities of local councils and traditional authorities in land governance,
  • Promotion of dialogue platforms that have helped resolve community-level land disputes.
  • Enhanced legal literacy and awareness among citizens, particularly women and youth, on their land rights.
  • Production of research and policy recommendations that fed into national debates on land reforms.
  • Development of innovative tools and approaches to improve land documentation and administration.

Participants at the press conference also acknowledged the important role of multi-stakeholder collaboration in addressing land challenges and stressed the urgency of translating the Policy Note into actionable reforms.

In closing, project leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Cameroon’s ongoing land reform process, ensuring that land management contributes to peace, economic growth, environmental protection, and social justice.
